Fairmont State collaborates on NASA grant to support teacher training

Fairmont State Faculty collaborated with the West Virginia Science Teachers Association (WVSTA) on a NASA West Virginia Space Grant Consortium (NASA WVSGC) professional development grant called “Next Generation Science Standards: Forensic Science Professional Development.”

Dr. Deb Hemler, Interim Chair of the Department of Natural Sciences, co-wrote the NASA West Virginia Space Grant Consortium grantin collaboration with Dr. Mark Flood, Forensic Science Program Coordinator.  

Fairmont State University celebrates diversity, culture during International Education Week

Fairmont State University International Office is celebrating International Education Week by bringing awareness to the opportunities available to students. 

Amanda Stinemetz, director of Educational Pathways for International Centers and Students (EPICS) said they are working to acknowledge, celebrate, recognize and promote international education this week. 

Fairmont State Nursing Professor awarded Woman of Enduring Spirit

Ellen Condron, Fairmont State University associate professor of nursing, was recently awarded the Woman of Enduring Spirit by the Clarksburg League for Service.

In 2004, the Clarksburg League for Service was looking for a way to celebrate women in the community, and in the league, who not only volunteer but to recognize their efforts to better our community. 

Fairmont State receives grant to provide support to student veterans

Fairmont State University has been awarded $2,478 through the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission’s Diversity for Equity grant program to assist the University’s Veteran Services Office in starting a new engagement activity for students who have served in the military. Fairmont State will use the funds to provide outdoor recreation events for student veterans.

Fairmont State hosted HEPC State Advisory Council of Students

Fairmont State Student Government was proud to host the Higher Education Policy Commission Student Advisory Council meeting on campus Friday.

Marshall, WVU, Mountain West Community College, West Virginia Northern Community College, and West Virginia State all accompanied the Fairmont State representatives for a productive meeting about Higher Education in the state. The universities gave campus updates and discussed successful initiatives that were occurring on their campus. 

Paintings and drawings by Jeremy Long on display in Wallman Hall

The Fairmont State University Department of Art is pleased to present, “Paintings and Drawings” by Jeremy Long in the J.D. Brooks Gallery at Fairmont State University. The show is currently on display from October 22 and will run through December 6 with a closing reception and gallery talk taking place Thursday, December 6 at 3:00p.m. Gallery hours for viewing the collection are Monday through Friday 10:00a.m. to 3:00p.m.. The event is free and open to the public.
